Annapolis InterClub Fleet

1998-1999 InterClub Results - Series 1, Day 3

Annapolis ICers:

Most of you already know how great it was out there today, so there is little need for a weather report. We had 17 boats and completed 6 races-- If only there had been just a little more wind (but one really, really cannot complain). The early races seemed to favor the left a little more (before the tide really started to flood, making the right side the place to be (although a big left in the last race made it an even race on the first beat, with all of the boats coming into the top mark together).

We got to see several people for the first time this year. Aden King and Phoebe Corckran raced for the first time (although they were in the safety boat last week) and had a great day finishing just ahead of Macy and Anna Nelson. Jonathan Foot sailed with Ian Mutnick and swears that Barbara will be out with him soon. Rusty Deane got out on the water in Kin Yellott's boat and had some good races. Kimberly Brickell returned from her world travels and showed off the new yellow color on her hull. Welcome to everyone and thanks for coming out!

All those new boats meant that there was some great racing to be had. The starts were challenging with that many boats (and that many anxious boats, reflected in two early general recalls), and Bugly eventually instituted the 1 minute rule. The racing was tight all day, and the finishes showed how tough it was to keep folks behind you when you were ahead-- resting for even a second could mean losing boats.

In the end, Eleanor Bradley pulled her skipper and the extra water (to get up to minimum crew weight of 315) they were carrying around the course well enough to just nip Jesse Falsone and Sherry Eldridge for the day by one point. Aden and Phoebe just nipped Nelson/Nelson, and Alex and Lisa Pline finished fifth on the day.

Thanks to Tom Stout for his great work measuring the folks who got their boats there this morning. We did a great job getting a lot done-- Tom will be sending around a message to everyone about the next measurement (next Sunday).

Thanks also to the Nelsons for providing the soup and to Kin Yellott for safety boat duty.

See you all next week!

Allan
