1998-1999 InterClub Results - Series 2, Day 6
March 14, 1999

Annapolis ICers,

Neither rain, sleet nor snow could stop frostbiters from getting on the water yesterday. When we got to the club, the morning wind had vanished and a wet, thick snow started falling through a winter fog. This persisted until about 1245 when a light Northeaster trickled down the creek. Allan Carscaddon made the call to get rigged and 9 stalwart ICers set sail for some real frostbiting. The wind filled in at about 5 knots with a few puffs here and there by the time Bugly fired off the first start. We sailed in the creek, starting near the western-most SSA dock sailing out past the first channel marker. The wind wasn't radically shifty and is was important to stay in the breeze. Both the right and left sides payed dividends depending on which race you were sailing. Allan Carscaddon did a nice job staying in the breeze and hitting the shifts up the middle to win race one with Falsone/Belknap in second. Falsone/Belknap came back to win race 2 in a cold sleet by playing the velocity up the right side, with Allan C. pushing them hard downwind. Aden King (back from extended business out of town) and Phebe Corckran had a great start in race 3 and played the left side of the beat to win that race. The weather had cleared up by the time Bugly started race 4. Falsone/Belknap got a nose out and covered hard to win the final race and the day. Allan Carscaddon was second. Macy Nelson and Kim Couranz were always in the hunt placing in the top 4 (I think) in every race. Other sailors include Tony Parker and Tara Stout, Matt Cottrell and Cicily Natunewicz, Jonathan and Barbara Foot, Ian Mutnick and Jervis Dorton, and Ross Dierdorff with Rip Hale. Cold feet and hands inspired the RC to call it for the day. Allan, Macy and Jesse (and crews of course) stayed out for some fun racing around mooring buoys. This was especially beneficial for practicing maneuvers and was a great deal of fun. Allan will post the racing results.

There's only 3 more regular season sailing days left, so get your IC out on the water and tune up for the Nationals. If there is enough interest, I would be glad to run an on-the-water coaching clinic on SSA opening day (April 11) pending an OK from Allan C. Please let me know if you are interested.
