2000-2001 InterClub Results - Opening Day Regatta
November 12, 2000
It was a beautiful day to start the season. Luckily the honking 20-30 knot NWer that was around Friday and Saturday blew through and left us with a 5-8 knot ENE breeze, perfect for clearing out the IC cob webs. We had 11 boats turn out, a great first day group. Hopefully this is a good omen for the season. We saw some new faces out today, both in the front and back of several boats. Wayne Pignolet made his modern day IC debut sailing Henry Filter's boat, while Carl DeMatteo had a new crew in his boat.
Hal Gilreath sailing with Rhonda Myers, soon to be a regular with husband Scott, when he completes the rennovation of woodie IC 34, jumped out of the blocks winning the first two races and never finishing worse than third. Alex Pline and Nancy Gilreath sailing the Jesse's Cadillac IC while he is in South Africa at the 505 worlds finished up with two bullets to finish second for the day. Phil Grotheer was also right there finishing third. Seemed the trick (mostly) was to get left early out to the layline.
Ross did a great job collecting all of the RC gear and running 6 great races.
Next week starts the season for real. I hope to see some more boats make it to the club during the week or next weekend. The bagels from the Bagel Connection will again be a regular feature starting next week along with some hot soup courtesy of Lisa's Employer Culinary Standards (OK so we're trying to clear out our freezer, so what, it's still good stuff!).
Also starting next week, as we did last year: THE WINNER OF THE DAY WRITES THE REPORT! This way you won't get tired of my stilted writing style and it will be educational for others to hear what your feelings were for what worked on that day.
See you all next week! BACK TO THE STANDARD 1 PM START.
