2004-2005 InterClub Results, Day 1, November 21, 2004Annapolis ICers, It was hardly frostbite weather for the first day of the season. A warm, light southerly prevailed under cloudy skies, and most people opted for wetsuits or T-shirts instead of drysuits. Four longish races were held, and seven boats made it out for the debut (please excuse my poor recollection of names). Among them were some new faces, including Reed, a USNA graduate and classmate of Gavin O'Hare who will be using one of the Academy boats this season. Russ Paret made it out on the chartered fleet boat, and had the distinction of bringing with him his own shore crew. Molly O'Bryan, an assistant coach at the Academy, borrowed #235 for the day. Racing was particularly tight in the final race, with four boats rounding the weather mark nearly overlapped. I think the trick of the day was to head right into some better pressure and look for wind at the edges of the course. Also, there was a lot of traffic out there, so taking before some chop killed your speed was also important. We have racing scheduled for next Sunday, so if you're in town, come down and work off some of that Thanksgiving turkey you stuffed yourself with.
