420/Laser
Beginner
420 classes are offered in two week sessions throughout
the summer to sailors between the ages of 12-17 years old. This course
is designed to teach students who have little experience the basic
skills needed to sail. In an environment where fun , safety and teamwork
are paramount, students are introduced to:
Wind awareness,
Sailing terminology/rigging,
Points of Sail,
Tacking,
and Gybing. Cost: $400
Intermediate 420 classes are designed for sailors between the ages
of 12-17 who have completed at least one two-week session of the
420 Beginner course. Students will become proficient in all points
covered in the 420 Beginner course. They will also be introduced
to:
Weather,
Sail Trim,
Hull Trim, and
Equipment Maintenance. Cost: $600 4wks/$1,100 8wks
420 Chesapeake Racers compete in regattas hosted by clubs around
the Chesapeake. Classes will be conducted at SSA on non-regatta days.
For a list of events where coaching will be provided, please contact
the Director. Students are encouraged to bring their own boats to
class. In this course, students will practice skills necessary to
become proficient racers such as:
Starting Techniques,
Boat Handling,
The Racing Rules of Sailing,
Racing Tactics, and
Trapeze and Spinnaker. Cost: $650/4wks or $1,1000/8wks
Laser Chesapeake Racers compete in regattas hosted
by clubs around the Chesapeake. Classes will be conducted at SSA
on non-regatta days.

boat storage fees will apply. In this course, students will practice
skills necessary to become proficient racers such as:
