From the Program Director
Welcome. I'm glad you're interested in learning more about the Severn Sailing Association Junior Program.
This past year has undoubtedly been the most difficult in the Program's history and the most difficult in many of our personal lives as well. However, this tragedy has also demonstrated the strength and good of the SSA community. This year has shown the importance of the sailing family that I'm so happy to say I'm a part of.
2011 was also another record-breaking year for enrollment in the Junior Program; with nearly 400 sailors partaking in one or more sessions. SSA was founded as a one-design racing club and we are committed to offering top-level coaches to push our race teams to success. This past summer, we had record participation in our race teams, and SSA was well represented around the US at many championship events.
Along with the race teams, we will continue to offer our excellent beginner and intermediate classes. With all of our classes, we will continue to focus on safety, fun, and success. We will have a diverse staff to cater to all sailors' needs - from the six year old harbor rookies, to the oldest racing sailors competing at the national level.
I'm also happy to say that the renovations at SSA are under way. We will be expanding and upgrading our main clubhouse to include junior classrooms and offices, larger locker rooms, and much more. The current buildings have served us well, but we are looking to continue expanding and improving our programs and this is an important step.
Please call, email or stop by any time if you have any questions for me. Hope to see you soon.
