TESOD Weekly Racing Reports - June 16, 2009
Did you have a dry view or a wet view of this week's TESOD?
From the perspective of the Aquasport starting line, we had a wonderful evening. Many thanks to Fuller Moore for assisting me with the race management. My Kestrel 1000 measured the east winds at a steady 15 knots, with gusts to 17. What I intended to be 20 minute races turned out to be 12 minute sprints. We got a TON of races in with zero downtime. This was critical on a grey, cool evening.
In the V15 fleet, Scott Gelo and his wife were battling back and forth all night with the Lori Schubert/Jamie Smith team. Elliott Oldak and the 'Fast Eddie' Mclean/Sandy Westphal team were out in their Comets, no doubt gearing up for their North American Championship this coming weekend at Rock Hall Yacht Club.
Lasers in attendance included Eric Bowers, a visiting TAYC instructor from Minnesota. Eric put on a clinic winning almost every race. Others included James Jacob, Tip Clifton, Dave and Lauren Schoene, Dave Sliom, Ashley Love, Margaret Podlich, James McKenna, Leo Wilson, Rick Gamble, Eric Johnson, Guy Tawney, Carlos Linares, Gretchen Esbensen, Jeff Caruso, Steve Cofer, Alain Vincey, Karen Long, Meredith Dodd, Bill Balough, and Cary Moore.... (did you register?)
The mark boat didn't move a mark after the first gun due to steady conditions and being kept busy assisting capsized sailors. So, while the Lasers figured out that there was a steady lefty and flat water at the top of the windward mark, the safety boat was back in the creek towing boats back into the creek and trying to solve the ol' "how do you right a Snipe when the centerboard falls out, turtles and rig gets stuck in the mud?" question. Well, with the help of John Zseleczky, Doug (extra Snipe sailor) and Nan everyone ended up in 'a' SSA basin safe and sound. This team earned their free dinner and drink this week!
