TESOD Weekly Racing Reports - June 30, 2009
The McHenry Trio rocked through the thunderstorm with dancing and loads of entertainment for our money - oh right but it was Free - double bonus! Once again reminding us all that SSA has the best sailing club venue, staff and group of members in the area.
After sailing, the band and spectators patiently waited and enjoyed the free keg while watching as the storms loomed over Annapolis. When the outcome finally looked bleak for avoiding the storm and deck set-up the band moved inside. With fans and speakers blasting the clubhouse room became sub-woofer speakers to the members who ventured back out to the deck after the storms (or trying to avoid being dragged on to the dance floor!)
Oh yeah, sailing.... it was another surprising pleasant night out on the water. The RC Team of Lorie, Alex and Cooper the dog Stout counted 44 boats on the course. It was a record for two-sail boats which made the leeward leg exciting at the start of the next Laser race and vice versa! Around the ends was the tactical manuever of the evening. The breeze was steady so it allowed the mark boat team of Doug Palmer and Nan & Hadlee Walker to practice driving a powerboat (so the veering inflatable wasn't the Dark N' Stormy, but the 7 yr. old at the helm).
44 Boats made it out to the line for 9 races in steady but light winds.
