TESOD – 5/25 ‘the drifter’

I’m not going to sugar coat it. Last night was a miserable night for sailing. If your hobby was waterskiing, golf, paddle boarding or kayaking then last night was about as good as it gets. Temperatures were in the 70’s with bright sunny skies, flat water and no wind. But for us sailing folks, last night was pretty wretched and mostly involved drifting. Amazingly the glassy conditions didn’t seem to deter the 20+ enthusiastic TESOD competitors who must have been REALLY itching to do some sailing. What little wind there was initially came out of the south but shifted to the east as the evening progressed, forcing the race committee to improvise the course layout by making use of moored power boats as the pin end of the line, and at one point, what was the pin end of the line became the weather mark! Course length was very much on the short side (a few 100 feet), but races still took forever to finish. Let’s hope for better wind next week.

Thanks to Doug Palmer for his help on the RC boat and Nan on the mark boat with her son, Hadlee and his friend Mara for ferrying RC friends and family spectators and picking up abandoned marks.

Final fleet tallies were:
Lasers 12
Snipe 2
V15 3
Jet 14 2
Lightning 1
Thistle 1
Albacore 1
Total 22

PRO, Alon Finkelstein

Next Week – First Gun at 6pm.

We are still looking for volunteer RC help so contact Nan at office@severnsailing.org if you can help out at least one night.
