TESOD Weekly Racing Reports - June 9, 2008

Yet another interesting TESOD adventure for the RC and sailors. On the water was the place to be with temps on land at 95+ degrees. 12 Lasers, 1 V15 and 3 Snipes made it for the first gun at 6pm with perfect SE breeze with gusts to 12 knots. The ol' dip and sail was the theme for the evening with crews and skippers abandoning their boats for Chesapeake Bay heat relief.

The rest of the sailors arrived for two more good races before the wind switched 180 degrees and sailors fled into the harbor with threatening squall conditions. They were just a threat so the clubhouse deck was busy with hungry and thirsty sailors. The lightning show over the Annapolis skyline and new cooler on shore breeze made the night even more enjoyable. It was especially special for junior sailor, RJ Bay who received his brand new Laser for his birthday surprise at the club. He rigged up quickly, splashed the new hull and even proceeded to win the first race for the Laser fleet. Then of course he had to christen the rig with Chesapeake muck by death rolling in the second race!

Keep your eyes on Lori and Matt Schubert who were out practicing for the V15 Nationals in Larchmont this upcoming weekend. There are over 100 boats registered!

Junior Program Director, Brent Ostbye and Brian Stout ran the mark boat until they abandoned ship to sail Jon Anthony's Snipe. Nan & Hadlee Walker and Doug Palmer ran the start/finish. Even David and Betka made it out to the race course to beat the heat and watch some competitive racing. Thanks to David and Betka for hanging with the heat wave to provide another great night of refreshments for us all (David clocked the galley at 120 degrees in the morning!)
