2026 Lightning Fall Series

The Greatest Lighting Regatta Photo Ever Taken

The photo below shows the Fleet 329 Fall Series Fleet immediately after the trophy presentation at Severn Sailing Association in Annapolis Aug 30, 2026.

While it clearly a wonderful group of people having a great time, it’s also much more. Competitors are arranged by age (Juniors on the left, Masters on  the right) and everyone is holding their trophies (engraved pint glasses) high. The total age range runs from early teens to mid-80’s, over 70 years. Both ends of the spectrum are holding awards.

The genius of our boat is that anyone with enthusiasm and sailing gloves can make it go fast. The genius of our class is that we work hard to make sure everyone is included in the fun and welcome on the race course. This photo demonstrates how well our formula works.

10 boats entered. Over 2 days Chesapeake Bay offered up everything from Drifters to high wind and big square waves, sometimes in quick succession. The RC work was excellent and the racing was extremely tight. Boats finished overlapped all weekend. Saturday evening the top three boats were within 2 points. Sunday afternoon the regatta was won on a tiebreaker. There was action, drama, romance and adventure across the course. Boats were over early, penalty turns got taken, but no protests were filed. In big wins and waves Peter Sarock went up the mast – twice!

When it was over, ‘Here We R’, with Bill Cabrall, LeAnn Myhre and John McGrane broke the ties with a last race first place for the win. Jason Warnock, with TBD, TBD and Heather Dowd and TBD were second, and Gary Hurban, TBD, and TBD came in third.
