Updated Covid Policy: Aug 18 2021

Dear SSA members,

Throughout the summer, the SSA Board has been continuing to monitor the Covid-19 situation locally and nationally.  In early summer, all the trends in Covid-19 were moving in the right direction.  Vaccination rates were up, and the rates of new cases, hospitalizations, and deaths were going down.

Unfortunately, over the last couple of months, the vaccination rate has plateaued and the number of new cases and hospitalizations has been increasing. Although Maryland and Anne Arundel County are still better off than many parts of the country, the impact of the Delta variant is being felt here as well.

The current CDC guidelines recommend that masks be worn indoors by all people, regardless of vaccination status, in areas of “substantial” or “high” transmission rates.  According to the CDC data as of August 14, Anne Arundel County falls into the “substantial transmission” category based on the number of new infections per 100,000 people and the percentage of positive tests.

Given this classification, and the fact that many of us have been traveling to other parts of the country that may have higher incidences of Covid-19, the Board has decided to reaffirm our current Covid-19 guidance.  We will continue to require masks indoors, except when showering, regardless of an individual’s vaccination status.  Fleets may choose to drop the mask requirement for organized fleet activities (e.g., regatta dinners) in the main clubhouse room, but we strongly encourage these events to be held outdoors whenever possible.   The complete SSA Covid-19 policies are printed below.

As always, the Board will continue to monitor the CDC guidelines and the local impact of the pandemic and update these policies as conditions allow.

Best regards,

Eric Johnson, Commodore

SSA COVID-19 Rules

Following CDC, State of Maryland, and Anne Arundel County guidelines, SSA has implemented the following policies. These policies may need to change depending on the state of the Covid-19 pandemic locally and nationally, as well as revised guidance from local government and health authorities.

Members assume responsibility and liability for their own health, will take all necessary precautions, including getting vaccinated, and visit SSA at their own risk. Please do not come to the club if you are displaying any symptoms of Covid-19. Members must ensure that their children and guests follow this guidance.

OUTDOORS

1.     Take advantage of the outdoor handwashing stations.

2.     When parking, please understand that if you block someone in, you may have your car moved by someone you don’t know.  If this is a concern for you, please consider parking on the street as there will probably be space available.

3.     The workshop will not be available except for official SSA business, so please bring your tools with you (as 99% of you do already).

INDOORS

1.     Wear a face covering at all times while inside the clubhouse, except when showering.

2.     The water bottle filler is available but please do not use the water fountain function.

3.     Dining is limited to outdoors (any requests for indoor events need to be submitted to the Office Manager for approval)
