2025 ILCA Masters US National Championships Regatta
SSA Sailors Shine at 2025 ILCA Masters US Nationals in Chicago
Four Annapolis area sailors competed at the 2025 ILCA Masters U.S. National Championships, held June 20–22 at the Chicago Corinthian Yacht Club (CCYC). The regatta attracted 53 competitors across the ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 fleets and delivered classic Great Lakes conditions—challenging, competitive, and unforgettable. SSA member, Deniz Cirivello, delivered an exceptional performance, finishing as the top female and winning the ILCA 6 Master division. On Sunday, she surged through the fleet with a 1st and 2nd place finish, ultimately placing 5th overall in the ILCA 6 fleet of 22 boats. Among the standout performers was SSA/AYC member Koralina McKenna, who took 2nd place in the ILCA 6 Apprentice division and 3rd female overall. On the ILCA 7 side, there were 31 sailors. SSA’s George Slook and Mike Colbert put in strong showings, earning 4th and 8th place, respectively, in the Grand Master division. The regatta’s conditions proved intense, with racing canceled Saturday due to wind gusts exceeding 40 mph. In true Corinthian spirit, CCYC adapted quickly, moving Sunday’s start earlier to maximize racing. Team SSA took full advantage of the opportunity, climbing the ranks on the final day. By the close of the three-day event, six highly competitive races had tested—and showcased—the skill, grit, and sportsmanship of the Masters fleet. Congratulations to all the SSA sailors who represented the club with distinction!
