Melges 15 Fall Series / Hospice Cup

In September, the Melges 15 Fleet joined the Hospice Cup Regatta for their Fall Series, sailing alongside four other fleets in a vibrant multi-class event supporting a great cause. Saturday began with a postponement on shore as the race committee waited for the wind to arrive. Once the postponement dropped, sailors were treated to champagne sailing conditions — sunny skies, 70 degrees, and a steady 6–11 knots of breeze. The Fleet enjoyed three competitive races, with close battles at the top and throughout the standings.

Sara Morgan Watters (EYC), was leading the day, posting two firsts and a third to take the regatta win. Alex and Lorie Stout (SSA) were never far behind, scoring a race win and finishing just one point back in second overall. Britton and Heather Steele (EYC) continued their strong season with another podium finish in third.

Sunday brought a very different story. The Melges 15 Fleet shared the course with the Day Sailor class, but racing was delayed ashore as conditions looked marginal. Once sailors launched, the breeze disappeared completely, leaving the Fleet drifting for nearly an hour. Despite the best efforts of the Race Committee, the wind never filled, and racing was abandoned for the day. Towboats shuttled the Fleet back to shore, where camaraderie and post-race storytelling filled in for the missing breeze.

Fall Series – Top 3

  2. Alex & Lorie Stout (SSA) – 6 pts
