Melges 15 Summer Series
Summer Series
Twelve boats came out for the two-day Summer Series in August, and the Fleet receivedclassic Chesapeake Bay sailing. Saturday brought hot temperatures near 79 degrees and a solid breeze at 15 knots, giving the Fleet some fast, physical racing. Sunday dawned just as warm, around 80 degrees, but the breeze eased to a more tactical 8–12 knots. Across the five races, consistency proved key.
Ashley Love and Alli Gutenkunst (SSA) sailed a strong, steady series, finishing no worse than third and taking the overall win with 10 points. Just a point behind, Britton and Heather Steele (EYC) kept the pressure on, winning two races but settling for second overall. Rounding out the podium was Sara Morgan Watters and Emily Shioutakon (EYC), who closed out the regatta with a bullet to secure third. The racing was tight throughout the Fleet, with several finishes separated by only a few seconds — a sign of the fleet’s growing competitiveness.
